Tue 18 Jul 2006: Together with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), the KDD Lab has been awarded a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Institute for Discrete Sciences (IDS) grant. UIUC is the lead University Affiliate Center (UAC) for a consortium that includes Kansas State University and the University of Texas - San Antonio (UTSA).
Thu 18 Aug 2005: Congratulations to Dr. Haipeng Guo, the KDD Lab's first Ph.D. alum, on his appointment as a tenure-track faculty member at United International College (UIC) in Zhuhai, China.

Fri 01 Oct 2004: The KDD Lab is now supported in part by an Information Technology Research for National Priorities (ITR) grant from the National Science Foundation!

02 Dec 2002: Congratulations to Julie Thornton on being named a runner-up for the 2003 Computing Research Association (CRA) Outstanding Undergraduate Award. Two runners-up were named from among all nominees from universities in the United States and Canada.
01 Aug 2002: Congratulations to Julie (Stilson) Thornton and Lindsey D. Warren on their successful Collaborative Research Experience for Women (CREW) proposal to the Computing Research Assocation (CRA) on intelligent critiquing and tutoring in computer-assisted instruction (CAI)! 25 Apr 2002: To protect KDD members from unsolicited commercial e-mail (UCE) and other spam (a type of internet abuse) the local mailing list addresses have been spamblocked. To send e-mail to one of the KDD subgroups or affiliate groups, replace the "(AT)" with the appropriate symbol.

01 Sep 2001: CIS 830, Advanced Topics in Artificial Intelligence, is being offered in Spring, 2002. Note that this shall not be cross-listed as CIS 864 (Data Engineering) as in previous years. (MSE students wishing to take an intelligent systems course to satisfy the 800-level course requirement must enroll in CIS830.) This is a course on knowledge discovery in databases and intelligent systems. The prerequisite of CIS 730 (Introduction to Artificial Intelligence) shall be enforced.
26 Aug 2001: You can still register on-site for the International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD-2001)! KDD-2001 is being held in San Francisco, CA, USA, 26-29 Aug 2001.
26 Aug 2001: The KDD group is planning a joint AAAI/UAI/KDD-2002 workshop on Real-Time Decision Support and Diagnosis Systems at the collocated artificial intelligence conferences next summer in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. If interested in participating as an organizer, reviewer, submitting a paper, or just attending, please send e-mail to the organizing committee or the Probabilistic Reasoning Tools Group at KSU.

05 Dec 2000: The IJCAI-01 Workshop on Wrappers for Performance Enhancement in Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD) will be held in Seattle, Washington, USA, on Saturday, August 4, 2001. Please see the call for participation.

18 Oct 2000: CIS 830, Advanced Topics in Artificial Intelligence, is being offered in Spring, 2001. Note that this is cross-listed as CIS 864, Data Engineering (MSE students should register for this instead of CIS864). This is a course on knowledge discovery in databases and intelligent systems.

28 Mar 2000: Silicon Graphics, Incorporated (SGI) will be holding a seminar on high-performance Linux clusters and software technologies for any faculty, staff, and students who are interested. The 2 presentations will be held from 10:30am - 11:30am on Friday, March 31, 2000, in Room 206 of the K-State Union. All KDD Group students should attend.
