AAAI/KDD/UAI-2002 Joint Workshop on
Real-Time Decision Support and Diagnosis Systems

Monday, 29 July 2002
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Workshop Description(Last updated 26 Oct 2001)

While AI methodologies are being applied towards increasingly realistic domains that require timely responses, real-time systems are coming to incorporate decision-making tools that require more intelligent capabilities. Many real-world intelligent systems call for autonomous intelligent agents acting in the face of uncertain knowledge and limited computational resources. Real-time decision support and diagnosis systems are two such important application domains.

Active research areas that are relevant to real-time decision support and diagnosis include:

The emphasis of this workshop shall be approaches based on probabilistic reasoning and decision theory, but the scope is not limited to any particular approach to intelligent decision support and diagnosis systems. Relevant applications with real-time requirements include:

This workshop shall help to bring together people from these different areas and present an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to share recent developments and techniques for creating real-time systems with diagnostic and intelligent decision support capabilities.

Workshop Audience(Last updated 14 Jan 2002)

This workshop is intended for researchers and practitioners in the area of uncertain reasoning (UAI), real-time artificial intelligence (RTAI), and real-time knowledge discovery in databases (KDD). Researchers with an interest in embedded systems, high-performance computation, human-computer intelligent interaction (HCII), machine learning, medical informatics, recommender systems, and real-time systems will also find this workshop of interest.

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION (Last updated 12 Mar 2002)

Registration for the workshop through the Edmonton conferences is open to ALL attendees of AAAI-2002, UAI-2002, and KDD-2002.

To be invited to register, send e-mail to: rtdsds-2002@www.kddresearch.org containing a short (one-paragraph) statement of interests in the areas of real-time systems, diagnosis, and decision support. Please state your current institutional affiliation as well.

Call for Papers and Submission Procedure(Last updated 26 Oct 2001)

We encourage submissions containing original theoretical and applied concepts in Real Time Decision Support and Diagnosis Systems. Experimental results are also encouraged, especially on fielded applications, even if they are only preliminary. We therefore invite two categories of paper submissions:

DUAL SUBMISSION POLICY: Submission of short (2-page OR 6-8 page) synopses of articles currently in preparation, under review, or accepted for publication as journals or book chapters is permitted. Submission of full-length papers currently under review for other conferences and workshops is also permitted. However, these papers shall be published in the working notes for this workshop if and only if they are compliant with the dual-submission guidelines of the other conference or workshop.

We request that authors prepare papers in the standard AAAI format

The first page of submitted papers should include the title; a brief abstract; and author names, affiliations, postal addresses, electronic mail addresses, and telephone and fax numbers.

Papers should be submitted in PostScript, PDF, or Microsoft Word 97/2000 file format. Electronic submissions are preferred, but both types of papers may be submitted by one of the following three options:

All submissions should be sent to rtdsds-2002@kddresearch.org
